I have a diagnosis that sounds like a Harry Potter spell

protrusio acetabuli!

What this means is that my femoral heads sit too deep within my pelvis, the only ‘cure’ for which is total hip replacements. My left hip is still largely working okay, but I’m already struggling to put socks on and tie my shoelaces on the right side. And I can’t squat to any meaningful degree.

The question I am now in is whether to put off the hip replacements as long as possible, which would mean less likelihood of a third hip replacement towards the end of my life (the implants last 20-30 years, and I am 38). Or whether to have it done sooner and hopefully get an improved quality of life now, but risk issues in some decades.

I assume this decision will make itself as I go about my days.
